In a major step toward strengthening Malaysia’s food security, FELCRA Berhad has launched a large-scale, closed-house broiler chicken farm complex in Tanjung Seratus, Kuala Rompin. Officially inaugurated by Deputy Prime Minister and Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, this state-of-the-art facility is designed to significantly boost domestic poultry production while leveraging modern farming technology. A critical partner in this initiative is Big Dutchman, the world-renowned supplier of poultry farming equipment, which provided the cutting-edge systems essential for the farm’s efficiency, sustainability, and productivity.

Big Dutchman’s Role in Transforming Poultry Farming

All 10 broiler houses fully equipped with Big Dutchman’s advanced technologies.

Big Dutchman played a pivotal role in equipping the 20.23-hectare (50-acre) FELCRA farm with world-class poultry farming technology. The facility comprises 10 closed-system poultry barns, each capable of housing 30,000 chickens per cycle, leading to an impressive annual production of approximately 1.5 million broiler chickens. To achieve this scale, Big Dutchman supplied an integrated suite of advanced farming solutions, including:

  • Automated Feeding Systems – Designed for precision and efficiency, ensuring optimal feed distribution with minimal waste.
  • Advanced Ventilation Systems – Engineered to create an ideal environment for bird growth, maintaining proper temperature, humidity, and air circulation.
  • Intelligent Monitoring Systems – Enabling real-time tracking of farm conditions, improving management and responsiveness to any changes in the poultry environment.

By automating crucial farm operations, Big Dutchman’s technology minimises human intervention, enhances biosecurity, and ensures a sustainable production model that aligns with Malaysia’s long-term food security agenda.

Collaborating for Success: FELCRA & Big Dutchman

Close collaboration between Big Dutchman and Felcra resulted in a high-tech broiler facility.

The FELCRA broiler farm is a testament to the seamless collaboration between the government and industry leaders like Big Dutchman. From the project’s early stages, Big Dutchman worked closely with FELCRA to develop an efficient, scalable farm operation. The company leveraged its extensive experience in poultry production across Asia to overcome the challenges associated with setting up a large-scale facility.

Ensuring smooth operations, Big Dutchman also conducted extensive training programs for farm staff, equipping them with the skills to manage, monitor, and maintain the high-tech farming equipment. This knowledge transfer is instrumental in optimising productivity and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the farm.

Advancing Malaysia’s Food Security with Smart Poultry Farming

Malaysia’s food security strategy relies on innovative solutions that enhance efficiency and yield. Big Dutchman’s pioneering technology contributes to this effort by:

  • Enhancing Productivity – The modern farming systems facilitate faster growth cycles, allowing for higher production volumes with consistent quality.
  • Optimising Resource Use – Advanced automation reduces the need for extensive labour while ensuring feed, water, and energy are used efficiently.
  • Improving Bird Health – Controlled environments minimise disease risks, improving overall flock well-being and reducing mortality rates.

As Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi emphasised during the launch event, “Ensuring food security requires a ‘whole-of-nation’ approach involving close collaboration between the government, private sector, and individuals.” Big Dutchman’s role in this initiative exemplifies this collaborative effort, demonstrating how cutting-edge technology can drive national food sustainability.

Future Expansion & Big Dutchman’s Vision

The Felcra facility is expected to product 1.5 million broiler chickens per year.

The success of the FELCRA broiler farm sets the stage for future expansions, with similar projects planned in Bagan Datuk, Perak, and Sungai Damak in Lipis. This ensures that the food security issues are tackled proactively, which is something Big Dutchman is honoured to be a part of. The company is also looking to introduce more automation, artificial intelligence, and data-driven decision-making tools, such as the BFN Fusion cloud system, which enables real-time farm monitoring and analytics.

By participating in large-scale national projects, Big Dutchman strengthens its position as a leader in Malaysia’s poultry sector.
